Well summer seems to be eluding us… Rain and cold weather doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence that summer is around the corner, and we are now nearly half way through May! This time of year Boscastle is starting to fill up with visitors who enjoy walking and exploring the beautiful coastal path along the north Cornish coast. This coastline is especially wild and rather spectacular really. This ruggedness of the coast with its steep cliffs and striking rock formations is what inspired the design for May.
I made these stud earrings by fusing silver filings and dust to silver sheet, to achieve the rugged and rough texture. I then added patina to bring out the pattern more, and finally polished back the high spots a little to add some brightness.
The moody silver is joined by one of my favourite stones – Labradorite. With its fabulous shades of blue and green on a grey base, it never ceases to amaze me with its mysterious flashes of colour; it’s a truly amazing stone!
As usual these earrings go with pretty much anything, I am all for “work horses” and I think these stud earrings are too, you can wear them anytime really. Anytime you want some character and a bit of edge, these are the ticket!
