Karen’s triple star pendant – close to the heart

Triple Star Pendant commission

Time and time again I get asked to make very personal and precious pieces. The star trio necklace I had the pleasure to make for Karen shows the power of personalisation and how a piece of jewellery can act as a constant reminder of loved ones, in this case Karen’s two children.

The story

Fellow creative Karen (see link to Karen’s own work further down!) came to me with an idea that she wanted me to work with. She loved my Triple Petal pendant as well as the Twinkle star pendants (photographed below) and asked if I could combine the two into one. Karen also wanted her children’s names on the stars, so we were going to hand stamp their names onto the two larger stars. This way she would be able to have them both close to her heart at all times, and what could be more fitting than stars, to symbolise your children?

The stars aligned

I’ve always had a thing for stars and loved Karen’s idea. I came up with a very simple design with 3 stars hanging from one bail. The stars would be hand cut to give each star their own unique personality, just like the people whose names were on them. They were to be graduated in size to that you could see them all at the same time. I drew up the design in Photoshop for Karen to see what I had in mind and roughly what the stars would look like aligned up on the joint bail. She was very happy with this, and chose for the names to be stamped horizontally.

The very personal result

I loved the resulting pendant myself, and was very happy to hand this necklace over to Karen, in person here in my workshop. It’s such a great honour to make a thing like this and all I can say is “thank you” to Karen for trusting me with making this necklace – thank you!

The shop is full of gorgeous, locally made arts and crafts. It’s located in Wadebridge, here in Cornwall, and is well worth a visit if you are nearby!
